The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra is one of the leading orchestras of modern Germany. This 11-CD box set contains nine symphonies by Gustav Mahler performed by the world's greatest conductors, including Mariss Jansons. The main feature is a performance by Jansons, the current chief conductor, of Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection," the first time it has been released on CD, as well as Symphonies No. 5, No. 7, and No. 9. The "Resurrection," previously released on video, also featured Halteroth and Fink's solo singing, and two performances by Haitink, who is closely associated with the X Orchestra, of Nos. 3 and 4, including not only the 87-year-old master's mature No. 3, but also the 2005 No. 4, which is being released here for the first time, featuring the famous singer The other two are the Nézet-Ségalet No. 3 and No. 4, both performed by the 87-year-old maestro. Also included are Nézet-Séguin's "No. 1," Harding's "No. 6," and Colin Davis' "No. 8," which was much talked about when it was first released on the RCA label for its surprisingly high sound quality and profound performance. This symphony collection allows the listener to fully appreciate the performance of the orchestra as well as the individuality of each conductor. Naxos Japan
