Barry Douglas's fourth Schubert album features three piano sonatas from the middle period. Douglas, who has completed a six-volume collection of Brahms's solo piano works and has received worldwide acclaim for his mature expression, next steps forward with a collection of Schubert's piano works. Volume 4 contains three piano sonatas composed between 1817 and 1819, the middle period of Schubert's short life. Barry Douglas's high compositional skills and dense emotion allow Schubert's rich melodies and poetic talent to shine through in these works, despite the use of B major and other experimental adjustments. As in the previous three volumes, the piano used is a Steinway Model D (541 687) concert grand piano from the CIT Cork School of Music (Ireland), where Barry Douglas is Artist in Residence.
