The Pebble Woodee

The Woodee is a stylish tool made out of local Herefordshire oak and designed to open a hot wood burner door. The handcrafted artisan design will protect your fingers from getting burned. 

The Jigsaw design is for small oval-shaped handles such as Villager or Yeoman. 

All our family use ours, it hangs on a blacksmith’s nail by the stove, so it is always close to hand.

The Woodee was born out of necessity. I burnt my fingers one too many times opening my Wood burner door!  Talking to friends I found I was not alone. Singed fingers were common place and burnt oven gloves, old tea towels and ‘pokey sticks’ littered their hearths.

My husband Andrew and I set about designing a ‘Louise Proof’ handle.  I started making models out of plasticine before Andrew, a craftsman working in traditional and heritage roofing, began carving them out of wood. 

We now work with David Malone of Traditional Joinery in his Hereford workshop.  David’s traditional methods see each Woodee go through at least 22 different processes to get the beautiful and tactile shape.

It has a soft and flexible leather strap and comes with a hand forged blacksmiths nail so that it can be hung up where you need it.  Presented in a handmade box with the Woodee Logo lasered onto it, it makes a great unique gift for the wood burner owner in your life and is a great conversation piece.
