On April 27, 2020, the USS Nimitz along with VFA-94 “Mighty Shrikes” as well as other squadrons left for what would become the longest deployment since the Vietnam War; 321 days. During the deployment, they sailed the Western Pacific, North Arabian Sea, and the Arabian Gulf before returning home in February 2021. In August 2015 VFA-94 flew their last flight in their F/A-18C aircraft and began to transition to the two-seat F/A-18F. One of the VFA-94 aircraft was F/A-18F 168929 msn F-275 and became the CAG aircraft.
