GULDA / PICQUEUR / VILLA-LOBOS
Description:
This is a new publication of the Saxon Wind Music Philharmonic, of which former Berlin Philharmonic trumpet player Thomas Clamor is the chief conductor. The highlight of this issue is the cello concerto composed by the brilliant pianist Friedrich Gulda and played by the famous cellist Peter Bruns. 5 movements each have their own very strong character, and the whole work is quite quirky, but also a familiar masterpiece. There are several recordings, but it is rare to find a recording by a cellist as big a name as Bruns. Hindemith's march and Villa-Lobos' aria (cello and saxophone quartet) are arrangements. The Villa-Lobos aria, in particular, has a different charm from the original's quiet atmosphere. Bart Picoult's (1972-) card playing is a world premiere recording. Tobu Land System
