Moyzes, Alexander (1906-1984)
Description:
Alexander Mojzes is considered one of the most important figures in contemporary Slovak music. His series of works are all inspired by the folk songs of his native Slovakia. This album contains his Symphonies Nos. 11 and 12. Composed in 1978, No. 11 was premiered by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ondrej Lenart. The chaotic opening section and the developing first movement, in which the decisive motive that emerges from this section changes its shape in various ways, are impressive. Composed in 1983, No. 12 is Moises' last orchestral work and his "musical autobiography. Although written with a simple structure, its straightforward expression conveys Moises' thoughts and feelings in full. Naxos Japan
