Masaaki Suzuki recorded Bruns' cantatas and organ works with the Institute for Religious Music at Yale University. The first collection will be released. Nikolaus Bruns (1665-1697) received organ lessons from his father and studied organ with Buxtehude. In Lübeck, he studied violin and viola da gamba with his uncle Peter. He served as organist at St. Mary's Church there and in Copenhagen on the recommendation of his teacher Buxtehude. He also composed organ music and cantatas (church concertos) and contributed to the development of German Baroque organ music and church cantatas. 32 years old at the time of his death, his talent was close to Buxtehude's, and his remaining works are masterpieces. The Yale Institute for Religious Music was founded in 1928 as the School of Religious Music at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, and in 1974 it became the professional graduate school of Yale University. The Institute offers rigorous training for careers as performers, church musicians, and ministers, with the goal of practicing religious music, worship, and the study of the arts. The members of this recording are all masters of ancient music, and together with Masaaki Suzuki's conducting and organ playing, you will enjoy the high quality of the performance.The organ used is an instrument built by Charles Klingbaum (1929-2020), which was installed in the chapel in 2007.
