Description:
Weinberg's works were intensively performed at the 2010 Bregenz Music Festival, and he has rapidly gained attention. Previously known only as a "tragic composer" due to his tragic war experiences, Weinberg's gentle and lyrical side has come into the spotlight as more and more of his works have been heard in recent years. In his 17 string quartets, the influence of his close friend Shostakovich can be felt in the early works, but the later works take on a completely different aspect. This album contains three pieces from No. 11 to No. 13. The intense No. 12 is the most representative of the "dark" Weinberg. No. 11 uses folk motifs to great effect, and No. 13 is in a single movement. The Silesian Quartet, one of Poland's leading chamber music ensembles, performs this work. Naxos Japan
