Brandi Disterheft Trio 、 George Coleman
Description:
This is the fifth new album in four years by female bassist/singer/composer Brandi Dysterheft! Leading her own trio, she takes on the challenge of Brazilian jazz with legendary tenor saxophonist George Coleman as a guest. Brandi Dysterheft has built a solid reputation as a female bassist, singer, and composer since her debut in 2007, and this fifth album is a new highlight of her career, a groovy, fresh breath of fresh air. This fifth album is a Brazilian jazz album featuring legendary tenor saxophonist George Coleman. Brandi's powerful and dynamic style and smooth phrasing are a perfect match for Brazilian Jazz. The trio is led by veteran drummer Porcuño, who has played in the bands of Tania Maria, Aiato Moreira, Herbie Mann, and others since the 1970s, and is said to be the only one who can play hard jazz bossa. Klaus Mueller is a gifted pianist who has played in Porcuño's leader trio for a long time and is also a sought-after session musician. Brandi's silky and glamorous vocals are featured on six of the 14 tracks. She was once called "Canada's Esperanza Spalding" for the way she played and sang with her wood bass right after her debut. And to top it off, legendary tenor player George Coleman makes a wonderful guest appearance. He swirls around the trio's light Brazilian groove on (3), and shows his maturity on covers of well-known jazz tunes such as (4) and (9).
