Description:
The duduk is a two-reed vertical flute from Armenia. The reed is much larger than that of the oboe, and the thick, wind-like sound produced by the breath passing between the reeds and the large vibrato obtained by tightening and loosening the reeds with the lips create a sound similar to that of the shakuhachi. The unique melancholy of his tone has attracted music fans from all over the world, and Haig Sarikouyoumdjian, a virtuoso born in 1985 who gives a wonderful performance on this album, is a regular collaborator with Jordi Savard. Accompanying him is another duduk, which continues to blow sustained notes through circular breathing, and is accented by a drum d'or, which he slings over his shoulder and taps with the fingers of both hands.
