Description:
This is the fourth collection of guitar works by Manuel Ponce, a leading figure of Mexican music in the first half of the 20th century, known for his many guitar pieces for the virtuoso Andres Segovia. In addition to the well-known "Sonatina de la Nación" (Sonatina of the South), this collection includes several other unusual works. The "Theme, Variations and Finale" exists in two versions, and here we can hear the first version as well as the second version edited by Segovia. Also included are Ponce's last work, "Variations on a Theme by A. Cabezon," and a large work, "Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Folia. Recorded in Canada in 2014, with guitar performance by Judicaël Perois. (C)RS
