The young countertenor Valea Sabadus, born in Romania in 1986, is acclaimed as "one of the best countertenors today" (Phonoforum magazine, Germany) and sings exquisite Bach and Telemann. His fourth album for Sony Classical is a collection of Bach and Telemann arias with the Basel Chamber Orchestra. Sabadus first came to prominence and international fame in 2012 with her performance as Semilla in Leonardo Vinci's opera "Artaserse" with five countertenor singers. This performance was performed in Nancy, Lausanne, Cologne, Theater an der Wien, Theatre des Champs-Elysées, Royal Opera House of Versailles, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and other European cities, and has been released on CD and DVD, receiving countless awards. In the same year, his solo CD "Reloaded Hasse" won the German Critics' Music Prize. In addition, her performance of Cavalli's opera "Elena" at the Aix-en-Provence Festival was released on DVD and received international acclaim.Since then, his wide repertoire, ranging from baroque opera to contemporary music, has led to a series of leading roles in various opera houses. The Basel Chamber Orchestra, which plays both modern and period instruments, has found new discoveries in the joy of making music with conductors (such as Giovanni Antonini) who take on a variety of challenges, transparent and flexible orchestral sound, and new ways of interpretation. This album was recorded in parallel with a successful concert of the same music. In the works of Bach and Telemann, two masters of the Baroque, the singers boldly confront the works with their restrained voices. Bach as sacred music and Telemann with his humanistic and intertwined sound are combined here as a contrast. The countertenor's range is at the height of a woman's voice, but the singing is powerful, and the balance is different from what we are used to hearing, but that is the countertenor's charm.
