This is the second album in the "ECM NEW SERIES" by Momo Kodama, the first Japanese classical pianist contracted by ECM. This is a unique work that combines Debussy's late masterpiece, "Exercises," with Toshio Hosokawa's Exercises written in the 21st century. Debussy was fascinated by Japanese art such as Hokusai Katsushika, and Hosokawa's works were strongly influenced by French music. Momo Kodama has successfully drawn out the affinity latent in these works by combining works written approximately 100 years apart. Toshio Hosokawa's Etudes III-VI are performed for the first time in the world by Momo Kodama. (C)RS
