97 points Parker - limited
New Reserve Cabernet release from Freemark Abbey. Limited.
96 Points Robert Parker: "From a famous Rutherford site set back behind the Grgich Hills winery, the Freemark Abbey 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Bosché Vineyard delivers classic notes of black cherries and cassis, mint, cedar and vanilla. Aged in 65% new French oak, it's full-bodied, rich, concentrated and tannic, made to age, with a long, vibrant finish."
Nestled in the heart of the Rutherford Bench, the Bosché Vineyard has the ideal terroir for growing elegant and balanced Cabernet. The 2021 vintage opens with aromas of chocolate covered cherry, blueberry, graphite, and forest floor. The palate is rich and supple with notes of forest fruit compote, cigar box, mocha, and carob. The tannins are already silky and integrated which means it drinks wonderfully now and will age gracefully for decades.
Freemark Abbey has a long and distinguished history that goes back to the late 19th century. The original stone winery dates to 1899 and is still used for barrel storage. More recently, the winery has the distinction of being the only one to have been asked to provide both white and red wines for the famous Paris Tasting of 1976. Part of Jackson Family Wines (JFW) since 2006, the wonderfully restored property makes for a historic backdrop for visitors, and the location, on Highway 29 at Lodi Lane, is easy to find, even for first-timers in Napa Valley.
