Description:
DUX's Weinberg Project! Mieczyslaw Weinberg (1919-1996), one of the most important Polish and former Soviet/Russian composers of the 20th century, celebrates the 100th anniversary of his birth in December 2019. Weinberg had a turbulent and difficult life: his father-in-law was murdered during the anti-Semitic movement in the former Soviet Union, he himself was banned from performing some of his works due to criticism of Zhidanov, and he was even arrested in 1953. Although Weinberg's honor was restored after Stalin's death, his many outstanding works have not been recorded, and his art is still in the process of being reevaluated. The four works recorded this time are "Op.147" and "Op.74" in which "timpani" plays an important role along with the string orchestra, "Op.153" in which the clarinet plays an active role, one of his last works four years before his death, and "Op.148bis" in a version accompanied by string orchestra. Weinberg's art will be steadily revealed by performers from Poland, Weinberg's birthplace. Tokyo M-Plus
