Description:
During his first visit to England in 1884, Dvořák performed his own work "Stabat Mater" at the Royal Albert Hall to great acclaim. Along with his gratitude for the success of the premiere, he was also strongly impressed by the English choral music tradition. Three years later, Dvořák composed "Mass in D major," a small-scale work for the dedication of a new church built by his friend, the famous architect Joseph Halafka. Dvořák's wife, Anna, also participated as a soloist in the alto solo. The following April, the work was presented to the public in Pilsen, but the publisher Zimrock showed no interest in it, and another publisher, NOVELLO, commissioned an "orchestral accompaniment version," which was published first. It is a beautiful work with a classical appearance. Naxos Japan
