Myaskovsky, Nikolay (1881-1950)
Description:
This is a collection of cello works by two leading modern Russian composers, Myaskovsky and Glazunov. Myaskovsky is known for his 27 symphonies. He was a classmate of Prokofiev at the Petersburg Conservatory, where they hit it off from their student days and formed a lifelong friendship. The two cello sonatas here are also easy listening music with a sense of tonality. Glazunov also maintained a conservative style throughout his life, and all of his works have a peaceful atmosphere. In particular, the "Two Pieces" is a beautiful piece that freely uses folk melodies. The "Bard's Song" is also a charming piece full of melancholy. The Swedish-Danish cellist Andreas Branterid's beautiful sound is a delight, as is the accompaniment by Swedish pianist Forsberg, who has released many albums on dB Productuins. Naxos Japan
