This is a collection of recordings by Andor Foldes, mainly Beethoven. Andor Foldes (1913-1992) was a pianist born in Budapest, Hungary. He achieved success at a young age and was on a European tour when World War II broke out, and he moved to the United States, where he became a citizen in 1948. His recordings from the early 1950s show a spirited and forward-looking performance, as is typical of his Hungarian descent. 1968's recording retains the same clarity, but the music has much more depth. Debussy as played by Foldes is a rarity. The ambiguity of Debussy's music has been cleared away in this crisp and clear performance, and it is as if the resolution of Debussy has been raised.
