From the garden of house no. 55 in Laobanzhang, this 2025 harvest continues our legacy of bold and uncompromising Sheng Pu’er from Laobanzhang. The material is a carefully balanced mix of leaves from both younger and ancient trees and was selected during our group visit to the farmer’s estate after sampling the full lineup of their 2025 productions—where this one clearly stood out.

Its processing reflects the classic Menghai style, with a hot and brief Sha Qing that locks in the tea’s vibrant energy. The first cup already reveals its assertive character: tightly coiled bitterness reminiscent of citrus peel quickly unfolds into notes of soft honey and an undercurrent of stone fruit. A marked astringency, typical of Laobanzhang, creates a layered texture in the mouth—intense, yet balanced.

As you continue brewing, the tea shows its depth. The returning sweetness (Hui Gan) builds steadily with each steep, lingering at the back of the throat and blooming throughout the palate. Even a sip of plain water after the session carries traces of syrupy sweetness—a signature of high-quality material.

Strong, structured, and deeply expressive, this tea is a commanding example of what Laobanzhang can offer: power wrapped in complexity, demanding presence, and a long-lasting aftertaste that stays with you well beyond the session.
