Grotto
Description:
This is one of the rarest African funk/rock albums ever discovered! This is the debut album by the Nigerian college band Grotto, who also played with Fela, released in 1977. At the age of 15 or 6, Grotto was formed with friends who attended the school that guitarist Soga Benson attended, Greggs (St. Gregory's College in Lagos), and released the album "At Last" in 1977! The Grotto, playing Afro Rock influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana and others, caught the attention of Odion Ilu Oji, A&R at EMI, and made their debut with this album. Most of these college bands in Nigeria are studio projects, but this band is a live band that plays gigs consistently and has played with top musicians such as Fela Kuti, and they are the best! For the first ever reissue of this fantastic album, the album was mastered by The Carvery, who has worked on Nigerian funk compilations, Quantick, Dan Shake, etc., as well as rare photos and guitarist Soga Benson, and produced by Odion Ilu-Oluo, In addition to rare photos and interviews with guitarist Soga Benson and producer Odion Iluoge, the original artwork has also been reproduced in its entirety! This is a rare and rare album!
