In some ways, JSBX are like Devo: musically, they're almost the reverse of Devo - where Devo had futuristic nerd soldiers playing mechanised rock for shock haired goobers to herk-a-jerk to, JSBX make a primitive cave rock for those same, now old and bald, goobers to get drunk to.

For someone hearing The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion for the first time today, their brand of fuzzed up, scuzzy blues-cum-punk will sound like just another horse escaping the same stable that housed the likes of White Stripes and the Black Keys, and surely there are already too many of those running around?

Except Jon Spencer, Russell Simins and Judah Bauer are the guys that helped build that stable - even though it was never sturdy enough to contain their own primitive pummelling.
