Beethoven Series by Laurence Ekilbey & Insula Orchestra. The first concerto, "Piano Concertos No. 4 & 5" with Nicolas Angelisch, was performed on an 1892 Pleyel, seeking the ideal sound that neither the instruments of Beethoven's time nor modern grand pianos can produce, and was highly acclaimed overseas. Angelisch said, "The concert grand piano made in 1892, 65 years after Beethoven's death, also has a modern tone that respects the sound and spirit of Beethoven's time." The same 1892 Pleyel was used in this performance, and the same ideal sound of Beethoven's works was sought, with soloists who were well suited to it. Bertrand Chamayou and David Cadouche, who play the Pleyel, are highly acclaimed modern pianists, but they also play fortepiano, and their technique was also used in this performance. Alexandra Konunova and Natalie Klein use gut strings on their instruments and classical bows.The Insula Orchestra uses instruments from Beethoven's time, recreating the innovative sound Beethoven aimed for.
