"In 1972 Conservation is the "In Thing."  Not so in 1892 when the first attempt was made by a group of far-seeing scientists, to have the West end of Kangaroo Island reserved as a Wild Life Sanctuary.  Continued efforts over 27 years were crowned with success in 1919 when Flinders Chase was proclaimed by Act of Parliament, under the management of the Fauna and Flora Board of south Australia.
Mrs Masterman in her second edition of Flinders Chase, first published in 1950, has revised, enlarged and updated her book and enhanced it with many new pen and ink drawings and additional flowers in the four colour  plates.
Mrs. Masterman is well qualified to write on this subject, having lived at the Chase for a considerable time while her husband was in charge of the Government Ligurian Queen Bee breeding establishment there.  A keen Botanist, Naturalist and Artist, her book should be of great value to all those who are interested in the preservation of some part of the Australian Bush in its natural state."
