The Banschois Consort, specialists in 15th century music! Chants and masses of unknown authorship, recreating the music of the palace of King James IV of Scotland! Founded in 1995 by Androu Kirkman, the Banschois Consort is a male vocal ensemble whose repertoire consists mainly of 15th century French, English, and Burgundian music. The new album, "Music for the Kings of Scotland," recreates the liturgical music of the early 15th century that would have been performed at Linlithgow Palace, which served as the Pleasure Palace of King James IV, surrounded by magnificent decorations and sculptures and filled with music sung by accomplished musicians. The program features a Mass of unknown authorship from the Carver Choir Book, one of the largest surviving collections of music from pre-Reformation Scotland (previously attributed to the Continent or England, but now believed to be the earliest surviving Mass cycle of Scottish origin), and a performance of the James 4 Mass, a Mass of unknown authorship from the Carver Choir Book (previously attributed to the Continent or England, but now believed to be the earliest surviving Mass cycle of Scottish origin). ), the Banschois Consort's expert polyphony recreates the Scottish religious music that graced the palaces of King James IV.
