Description:
Mario Brunello, the master musician! Tavener and Weir's British Music Collection! After studying with cello master Antonio Janigro, Italian virtuoso Mario Brunello won the 8th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1986 at the age of 26, establishing himself as one of the top cellists in the world. The modern and contemporary program that Brunello presented at the 2010 Lockenhaus Music Festival consisted of two works, John Tavener's "Mystic Veil" and "Unlocked" by Judith Weir of England, who is known as "Her Majesty's Master of Music"! This coupling of Tavener's masterpiece and Weir's 1999 unaccompanied work, both of which are based on the songs of black prisoners in the American South, will give us an opportunity to hear the appeal of cello works in the modern and contemporary British musical world, and the contrast between mystical music and fantasy-like works. The program is a good one. Tokyo M-Plus
