Situated in the Persian Gulf, Dubai is a major city in the United Arab Emirates and the capital city of the Emirate of Dubai. It has various ports: the Port of Jebel Ali, Port Rashid and Khor Dubaï. Fifty years ago, there was not a single building in Dubai. In 1968, there were just 13 motor vehicles on its streets. Nowadays, the city is home to more than 400 skyscrapers, including the world’s tallest, which is visible from 90 km around: the famous Burj Khalifa tower, which stands 828 m tall. Other records have helped make this city famous. It boasts the world’s largest man-made islands, the world's heaviest gold ring, the largest aquarium…the list goes on. Every year, Dubai residents turn out in thousands to watch camel races. The crowds go wild, and the jockeys are none other than robots!
