This miniature watercolor floral study was made over several days. I created a background with alcohol inks on watercolor paper and eventually added the flower scene with water color pigments. I am the daughter of a chemist who created different types of water based paints, and endlessly experimented with different ways to make paints and other finishes. 

That apple didn’t fall too far from the tree, and I have even made some pigments from berries to use in my work and feel unconstrained to experiment with different media combinations. I feel a connection with both of my parents in my painting, as my mother was an artist in her own right alongside the creative scientist she married.
