Description:
This project began with Symphony No. 6, the fourth symphony in the Mahler Symphony Series conducted by Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra under Sieghardt, which received rave reviews in the specialist press when it was first released, both in performance and recording. This release of Symphony No. 5 continues the tradition. Although Sieghardt's Mahler is an orthodox interpretation, he emphasizes equilibrium throughout, and the balance of the winds and strings and the handling of soaring resonances are superb, developing an ideal sound that does not lose the music's driving force. The Arnhem Philharmonic has undergone a remarkable generational change in its orchestra over the past few years, and its technical skills have improved dramatically since the recording of No. 6. In particular, the excellence of the string ensemble, a characteristic of this orchestra, is noteworthy, and the Adagio movement is outstandingly beautiful. The trumpet solo at the beginning and the horn solo that dominates the third movement are also worth listening to. This series has been well received by the audio market since the release of the No. 6, and the orchestral sound in this and the No. 5 is all recorded in a massive and vivid manner. This is a release that reaffirms EXTON's current pride in excellent recording technology.
