What an elegant sheath, probably dating to the late 1950s, and in a rare larger size! The scoop neck bodice is styled with princess seaming - those seams shape the fit and then end in small pleats below the waist in front. The skirt is straight, with a small center slit in back for ease.

FABRIC/COLORS: The color is striking, a very dark blue-violet with a hint of sharkskin/ombre shimmer. The fabric is shantung weave, silk per a fiber burn test. The upper skirt is lined in an acetate type dark blue fabric.
TAGS: No tags at all, but looks professionally made.
CLOSURES: Long metal zipper up the back.
CONDITION: I have hand stitched the top of the back skirt slit where the seam opened. Shantung is, by its nature, slubbed, with an uneven texture of horizontal ribbing. There are a few horizontal threads in the skirt that have a subtle puckery look - see closeup. I cannot decide whether it is inherent to the fabric or caused by a small "pull". No other issues noted - no stains, holes, or tears.
