The 1st and 2nd albums of Judy Collins, the eternal diva of American folk, are back! Judy Collins competed with Joan Baez for the title of Queen of American Modern Folk. This disc is a coupling of her first two albums for Elektra, the first "A Maid of Constant Solo" (November, 1961) and the second "Golden Apples of the Sun" (August, 1962). With a style based on minimal backing vocals and a selection of mainly English traditional ballads and folk songs, this album seems to sum up her early days as a folk club singer. Her dignified and sincere singing with basic fingerpicking in this disc has a sparkle like a gemstone, which is suitable for her starting point as a folk singer. Commentary: Masaru Konishi
