Description:
Bjorn Schmelzer & Grand Lavoie! Singing De Lore's Madrigale Collection! Bjorn Schmelzer, a musicologist and renowned authority on folk music from Belgium, a country of great antique music, and Grand Lavois, an elite group of multinational antique musicians from Antwerp led by Schmelzer. Schmelzer and Grand Lavois, who made a big splash with their recording of Guillaume de Machaut's masterpiece "Notre Dame Mass" (GCDP 32110), present a collection of madrigales by the Flemish composer Cipriano de Lauret, an outstanding 16th century madrigalist. Born in Ronce in the Netherland (now Belgium), Cipriano de Lorre (c.1515-1565) was active primarily in Italy, where he left his mark with a number of progressive and outstanding Italian-language madrigales. Schmelzer compares de Lorre's life, which remains a mystery, to that of a "starved dog" and sheds new light on de Lorre's madrigale, which evolved greatly during his career. Tokyo M-Plus
