The XA GT Falcon, released in early 1972, was a landmark moment for Australian motoring. The first Falcon designed entirely by Australians (following the cessation of US Falcon production 18 months prior) was also the boldest yet. Larger than any Falcon before it, the XA brought sweeping new styling, a broader appeal, and a level of comfort that set it apart from its predecessors.

Ford built 891 XA hardtops between July 1972 and September 1973. Among them, just 129 were designated RPO83 (Regular Production Option 83), the factory's own designation for what enthusiasts would come to know as the GT Specials.

The RPO83 was no cosmetic upgrade. The headline change was a massive 780cfm four-barrel Holley carburettor, paired with fabricated exhaust extractors tucked beneath the V-banks. Together, they added 30-40bhp on top of the standard 300bhp. A modified sump with additional baffles and a manual choke rounded out the package. Much of the hardware was sourced directly from the Phase IV GT-HO programme - the legendary "Supercar" killed by political and public pressure before it ever reached production. The result was a car capable of running the quarter mile in the high 14s, with a top speed of around 140mph (225kph).

This particular model represents one of the rarest RPO83 variants of all. MacRobertson's Steam Confectionery Works - the iconic Australian company behind Freddo Frog, Cherry Ripe, Old Gold, Columbines, and Snack - had their delivery fleet painted in a striking corporate orange to stand out in traffic. That same shade made its way into Ford's official colour range as MacRobertson's Old Gold (paint code Y157). Of the 129 RPO83 coupes produced, only two were finished in this colour - one with a black interior, one with white.

This Classic Carlectables 1/18 scale replica includes a certificate with individual production number.
