Flying over the remote Limmen Bight region of the far western Gulf of Carpentaria was one of the single most incredible experiences of my photographic career.  Australia is nothing short of spectacular when seen from above. What may been ordinary from the ground can be extraordinary from above. This image captured at 2,000 feet above the intertidal flood plains between the Roper and Limmen Bight Rivers is the perfect example of that.⁠

Wander is an island nestled in the middle of a vast floodplain. The floodplain is punctuated by water buffalo tracks meandering to and from the island. If you look harder you may find four water buffalo basking in a wallow.

The Limmen Bight Region, is part of the traditional lands of the Marra, Yanyuwa, Alawa and Wandarrang peoples.
