Spielleyt, a Swiss medieval ensemble based in Freiburg, Germany, is a select group of students from the University of Freiburg and the Schola Cantorum Basel, and has performed beautifully on the Christophorus label. The Oriental Jazz Ensemble "FisFuz" is a trio of clarinet, percussion, and oud. They are popular for their exotic sound that combines Turkish and Oriental melodies with jazz. FisFuz has a strong track record of collaborating with classical music, having improvised on music by Mozart, Rimsky=Korsakov, and Rossini. The music of the Middle Ages, which goes back even further in time, is a perfect match for the "Oriental Jazz" that Fis Huz advocates. The program includes a popular piece by Monteverdi, a piece each by Fis Huz members Murat Josquin and Annette Maïe, and music from Spain and Italy from the 13th to 16th centuries, whose composers are unknown.
