Description:
Korngold was a child prodigy in Austria at the beginning of the 20th century, and his fame reached its peak with the success of his opera "The Miracle of Heliane," which premiered in 1927. Around the same time, his musical arrangement of Johann Strauss's opera "Die Fledermaus" was successfully performed on Broadway in New York, which led him to Hollywood. He adopted the techniques and brilliant orchestrations of opera and dramatic music, which were his forte, into film music, and he went on to make great achievements as the "Founder of Hollywood Film Music. This album features the dramatic music from two of his Vienna productions. The Commotion, music for Shakespeare's play of the same name, is one of Korngold's most popular works, with its rich expression, vivid scene descriptions, and rich orchestral sound. His 1922 "The Vampire or the Poacher," on the other hand, is a little-known work that also offers dramatic development and a rich tone reminiscent of his later glamorous film music. The tenor Hans Jörg Mammel, who has a wide range of baroque parts to his credit, sings "Balthasar's Song" in "The Commotion.Liturgical singing accompanied by harp enhances the atmosphere of the work.
