Royale Dairy was a historic, local dairy processing and retail business in Hanover, Pennsylvania, famously located at 209 High Street. While the original dairy and its iconic ice cream treats are now closed, the company is remembered today for its vintage glass milk bottles and advertising memorabilia. What You Need to Know:History: The Royale Dairy operated in Hanover for decades. In the late 1960s (specifically 1968), the business was acquired by the prominent local company Rutter's.Location: The main creamery and shop were located at 209 High St., Hanover, PA. Today, this site no longer functions as a dairy.Collectibles: The dairy is highly regarded among regional antique collectors.

Raymond Utz is related to the famous snack company, Utz Brands, which produces Utz potato chips and pretzels. He is the grandson of the company's founders.A quick look at the family history:The Founders: The business was started in 1921 by his grandparents, William (Bill) and Salie Utz, making hand-cooked potato chips in their summer kitchen in Hanover, Pennsylvania.Raymond's Role: His uncle, Harry Utz, and Harry's sons (including Donald and Raymond) took over ownership and actively operated the factory in the 1930s to help grow the family business into a regional brand. The Modern Company: The company stayed in the family for decades, with control later passing to the Rice family (through a marriage to the founders' daughter). Today, it has grown into a large, publicly traded national snack manufacturer known as Utz Brands, Inc.

found some old posts about the dairy  below.....

Wondering when and why the Royale Dairy closed. My dad worked as plant manager from the time they opened (early 40's) until he retired in 1968.

We are having a separate discussion on this on John Hopple's page. Then I see this. I had asked very same question Becky Naugle Bruchey.

I saw your post on Hopple's, Linda Harper, so I thought I would put it out to see if anyone knew. I moved away in 1966 and lost contact with most everyone except family.

I remember eating ice cream from there.

They had THE BEST milkshakes.

On 4th st, Bob Thompson. Near the river bridge. They had the best milkshakes. They use to deliver milk to my grandparents too. They had a metal insulated box on the porch and once a week a guy picked up empty bottles and left new bottles. Lol

My mother, sister, and I were just talking about the Royale Dairy the other day. We all remember the silver milk box on our front porch and their terrific milkshakes. How about Longs Dairy out in Burnham? They had great french fries!!! Plus, the Charlie Chip truck......anyone remember that?

My Mom worked there as a teenager. And we lived close by there when I was very young. They did have the best milkshakes!
