The TAG Heuer Monaco-  Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Limited Edition was released in 2020.  It was made to honour the race's 50th anniversary that year, though sadly, the race was cancelled owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was the first limited edition Monaco since the range was relaunched with the Heuer 02 movement and was was limited to just 1000 pieces.  

This Monaco is a three-piece case, an upper bezel, the mid case and the caseback. The mid section of the case is the most interesting, with its brushed stainless steel sides and polished upper section where it meets the (brushed) bezel. These polished surfaces extend to the lugs. The combination make this watch stand out. 

Under the raised sapphire crystal the designers went in an entirely new direction, with this edition. There is no similar Monaco in the Heuer back catalogue, the base dial is metallic red, but with the updated register design from the Heuer 02 Monaco series (including the crown on the right-hand side) and it has the new silver inner circle. 
The final design touch on the dial is the logo of a vintage racing car between the two and three o’clock hour markers- the logo manages to look stylish, without looking like an afterthought or being too obtrusive.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Limited Edition is markedly different from any of its forebears. This watch does not undermine the legend of the 1969 model and still manages to look fresh and new. This Monaco has a presence on the wrist- it’s one of those watches that is well-suited to bold colours and patterns.
