Description:
The fourth Meyerbeer opera, "Margarita di Ange," premiered at La Scala in Milan in 1820, was in the tradition of the "epic tales incorporating historical facts" that were popular in 19th century France, and was also a great success, incorporating fictional characters based on the "Wars of the Roses" that took place during the English Middle Ages. It was also a great success. The French version of 1826 was a "major revision" that added music from Meyerbeer's other works, and it was almost entirely lost. When the opera was revived in London in 1854, the original Italian version was restored, but it never regained its popularity. After almost 150 years of dormancy, the opera was finally revived in 2017 during the "London Week" of the 43rd Festival of the Valley of Itria, and people held their breath in awe of the intense and daring story. Margarita, the widow of Henry VI, who is in love with the exiled Count de Lavarenne, and Isaura, the Count de Lavarenne's wife. The three players' tactics are complemented by the gorgeous sound of the orchestra conducted by Fabio Luisi and Alessandro Talevi's contemporary direction.
