Description:
Antonio Sanchez's solo project! Antonio Sanchez, a Mexican drummer living in the turbulent United States of America, has created 10 pieces of music, which he himself calls an unprecedented "experimental project"! The latest release in 2017 is the fruit of the daring challenge of Antonio Sanchez, one of the best drummers of our time. Sanchez has been a regular drummer in the Pat Metheny Group for more than a decade, and has been used by numerous masters such as Chick Corea and Gary Burton, an unmistakable proof of his taste. In 2014, he drew worldwide attention when he composed the music for the movie "Birdman or the Unexpected Miracle of Ignorance" with a single drum, improvising while watching the film, with a degree of perfection that showed not one minute of inaccuracy. This work was the result of Sanchez's maximization of the latter's talents. Sanchez, who has a home with a studio in New York, returns from his hectic touring schedule to record improvised pieces that come to him instinctively and intermittently on the drums. He improvised and recorded what came to him instinctively. However, it seems that this was not only because he wanted to tie the success of "Birdman" to his own work. The time was when the world was beginning to move turbulently toward the presidential election in November 2016.For Antonio Sanchez, born in Mexico, it was a time to be aware of his homeland, and also to consider the issues surrounding his residency/citizenship in the United States, even though he had a green card. As a result, he was able to vote in November, but his frustration and anger reached an alarming level. He said that going into a creative act with these feelings was a kind of catharsis, a kind of meditative act, and a ritual. Finally, the drum solos were layered with electronic motifs and voices, and recorded in multiple recordings. The origin of the work itself reflects a critical social situation, and there is a sense of disquiet at the bottom of the work, which foreshadows chaos, doom, and frustration. It is also interesting to note the inclusion of mariachi music, with a performance by his grandfather, the famous actor Ignacio Lopez Tarso, at the beginning, as a symbol of his Mexican origins. Sanchez says he was inspired by artists such as Beck, Hiatus Cayote, Bjork, Little Dragon, Bonobo, and others, and that he was able to reach new horizons. Ambient, techno, hip-hop, minimal music... Sanchez's unique and milestone work intertwines these various elements.
