Scarlatti, Domenico (1685-1757)
Description:
Domenico Scarlatti, whose father was Alessandro Scarlatti, was instrumental in the development of opera in the early Neapolitan school. He was in the service of the Spanish royal family, and composed 555 exercises for Princess Barbara. This diverse collection of pieces is basically intended to improve the technique of playing the harpsichord, but it is also known for its different charm when played on a modern piano. Pianists of the 20th century, such as Horowitz and Lipatti, have each chosen their favorite pieces to play to their heart's content. The sonatas are basically in a single movement, and all of the music, condensed into two to four minutes, has its own unique charm. This is a performance by Filipetz, who demonstrated his outstanding technique in Liszt's "Paganini Exercise: First Draft Version. Naxos Japan
