Description:
This is the first Blue Note release from trumpeter, cornetist, and composer Ron Myles. He is flanked by Jason Moran (p), Bill Frisell (g), Thomas Morgan (b), and Brian Braid (ds), all of whom have performed with him on numerous stages. It is no exaggeration to say that this is an album by the living legends of contemporary jazz, but these are all well-known members who have participated in Miles' past releases as leaders, and the magical sound played at a somewhat relaxed and slow tempo is a work that draws you in. All of the songs on this album are Miles' originals. And most of the songs on the album were written in the summer of 2018 while taking care of his father, who was a friend and a good friend of Miles', as he was passing away. Miles said, "I was so lucky to be able to share my thoughts and love for my father with him before he passed away," and the album is composed with the image of a journey from earth to eternal peace. The melody is clad in a mysterious calmness and tenderness, and the title "Rainbow Sign" also expresses this feeling of his. He also produced the album himself. In addition to the aforementioned, the theme of the song is "rebirth," and it is also influenced by the Carter Family's "God Gave Noah The Rainbow Sign," as well as the non-fiction book "The Fire Next Time" by author James Baldwin and old folk songs from the 1920s. Rainbow Sign" by the Carter Family.
