Hermann Max, Rainer Kantorai, Das Kleine Konzert
Description:
Fasch was a composer active in the late German Baroque period. He developed his talent as a violinist and traveled throughout Germany, was hired by the court orchestra of Bayreuth in 1714, and became court music director of Prussia and Zerbst in 1722. He spent the rest of his life there. As director of music in Zerbst, he studied the religious trends of the time and took it upon himself to write works that were appropriate to them. It is said that he wrote cantatas for all church calendar days, but none of his works were published during his lifetime and most of them, except for the orchestral works, have been lost. This Mass in G major is one of the few religious works for which a score has survived, and it is a work that pays close attention to the text used, employing various techniques to emphasize the meaning of the words, such as a short overture followed by the first soprano solo. The virtuoso Hermann Max delivers a performance of this brilliant work with plenty of obbligato and arias for solo instruments. Naxos Japan
