Gov't Mule
Description:
Fantasy presents the tenth album in four years from the Southern rock jazz band Government Mule, led by guitarist Warren Haynes, who along with Derek Trucks was the driving force behind the Allman Brothers in the early 2000s. The album contains elements of roots music, rock, blues, soul, jazz, and country, and the songs are well-crafted and recorded during the U.S. presidential election. The song is a perfect fit for rock fans. The first two singles are "Stone Cold Rage" with its cool guitar riff and "Sarah, Surrender" with its soulful groove. The album cover artwork is by Richard Borge and features a soldier riding a broken toy mule in the wrong direction and screaming with an orange cone. Like the poem, it represents the current state of affairs in America. The character isn't shouting at anyone, he's looking back. It makes people think." Haynes said. The album is not all political, of course, but also includes road songs about life and love such as "Traveling Tune," "The Man I Want To Be," and the slow-burning "Easy Times. Throughout the album, Haynes' dynamic vocals are stronger than ever, wandering between rock 'n' roll and soul. 6 songs are co-produced by longtime Haynes collaborator Gordie Johnson, and 2 songs, "Dreams & Songs" and "Pressure Jimmie Vaughan joins on "Burning Point." Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground" is a traditional blues tune originally recorded by Blind Willie Johnson, but Haynes added lyrics and reworked it in a gospel rock style. This is one of the hottest American jazz bands of the moment.
