Sousa (1854-1932)
Description:
A collection of works for wind band by the highly acclaimed "King of March" Philippe Sousa. This album, the 22nd in the series, presents five of the 25 or so fantasy pieces composed by Sousa. Most of the pieces effectively quote melodies and atmospheres from existing popular music and well-known operas, and all of them are sure to catch the ears of many people. Blow and Low Blow," we hear melodies such as Handel's "Largo," transformed into a splendid waltz, and Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2," among others. The "Savior of the Nation," in which the chorus sings a chorus of thanks to the soldiers who fought for their country, is followed by "On with the Dance," which uses a lot of Maierbeer's melody, and the final "Music of the Minute," which uses Jerome Kern's waltz, Sousa's tango, and various other pieces. and various other tunes are used in the final piece. The lively saxophone tone at the end of the piece is also impressive. Naxos Japan
