Ives (1874-1954)
Description:
Ludwig Morlot and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra present the third collection of Ives' works. Three Places in New England," which features the "complex intertwining of melodies" and "rhythmic interplay" that characterize Ives' works. Morlot played this piece with great care, seemingly throwing numerous elements into the piece, starting with the second movement "General Putnam's Camp," which can be said to be Ives in his element. The emphasis on the nostalgic melody, which appears from time to time, lends the piece a familiarity. Orchestral Set No. 2," which expresses condolences to the American victims and their ancestors aboard the cruise ship sunk by the Germans, and "Holiday Symphony," which sets Ives' own recollections to music, are also interesting pieces that incorporate nostalgic American scenes into an avant-garde sound. All of these works are extremely difficult to perform, and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra performed them flawlessly. Naxos Japan
