Torelli , Gaspare (1572-1613)
Description:
Gaspare Torelli was a man of many talents: from a young age he worked in the local church and was a music teacher, composer, and poet, as well as a thesis writer who used his deep knowledge of Latin to teach Italian grammar. The last in a series of surviving musical works published by Torelli, this collection of 22 canzonettas was published in Venice in 1608. One complete copy survives in the University Library of Kassel, and there is a modern edition published in 2018 by Carolina Calabrese based on it, which is the recording used in this project. The booklet also includes liner notes by Carolina Calabrese.
