Description:
Composer Henri Muret was born near the Sacré Coeur in Montmartre, Paris. He was also a professor at the Louis Nidermeier School of Music and the Schola Cantorum, where he taught younger students, but it is said that he spent only about 15 years composing. Although he is said to have written many works during that time, most of them were burned and only a few orchestral and vocal works, mainly organ pieces, remain, making him almost forgotten today. However, his organ works, including his masterpiece "Byzantine Sketches," which can be heard on this album, are fascinating music filled with Wagnerian harmonies and Debussy-like melodies, demonstrating that he was "an artist comparable to the great medieval masters," as Turnumir, his junior, said. As his younger colleague Turnumir said, "He is an artist who can be compared to the great medieval masters.
