The book consists primarily of large format engravings that originally appeared in newspapers between 1861-1865. Some engravings are full page; others have 2 engravings per page. Each engraving has a caption beneath it which would have appeared in the newspaper, and below that is a detailed explanation of the scene.

This is quite an extraordinary volume, I'm not sure the term "book" adequately describes it! For students of the civil war, this is likely to be a treasure trove of information, especially given that the engravings are sufficiently detailed as to show the expressions and facial features of the soldiers, officers and other conflict participants.
