Original to c.1900, this stunning Edwardian Era gypsy ring is set with the most stunning natural sapphire. It has such an unusual elongated shape and the colour is a striking iris-blue with subtle violet undertones. Hand-cut it has a lovely depth to it which allows subtle nuances in tones and hues to dance within the stone as its turned under light.
Rub-over set to be in flush with the 18ct yellow gold band, not only is the sapphire well protected but also super comfortable to wear with no risk of ever snagging your clothes! The gold tapers to form smooth and conforming shoulders which naturally flow in to a solid gold D-shape shank.
This style of ring was known as the gypsy ring and it was a style which became particularly popular from the late Victorian period, well into the Edwardian Era. The ring bears its original hallmarks which allows us to date it to c.1900, assayed in Birmingham which was then the jewellery capital of the UK.
This is such a beautifully made ring and it is a true joy to wear!
Excellent: all stones are secure and well set, with no damage to the mount. Professionally polished and carefully inspected by our workshop, ready to wear and enjoy.
Unless stated otherwise, gem weights and specifications are estimated (assessed in mount).
