Although the majority of its output has traditionally gone into premium blended Scotch, Teaninich Distillery has gained growing recognition among independent bottlers and single cask whisky enthusiasts. The distillery uses a hammer mill and mash filter instead of the traditional mash tun. For a very long time, it was the only Scotch malt distillery to do so, however InchDairnie has now followed suit, utilising Teaninich's old hardware.
This type of mash filtration system, more commonly seen in large-scale brewing operations, uses a horizontal plate filter to separate the wort from the grain solids. The result is an exceptionally clear, high-quality wort that contributes to Teaninich’s clean, crisp, and slightly grassy spirit. This clarity allows cask influence — whether bourbon, sherry, or more exotic finishes — to shine through in beautifully expressive ways.
A good example of this is our recent Glaschu Spirits Co bottling of Teaninich! We took an 11 year old example, matured in refill wood, and finished it for two years in a fresh red wine barrique from France. The results were phenomenal, testament to the quality and versatility of Teaninich's spirit.
This batch of 2023 Teaninich Barrels is sitting at Volpe & Castello bonded warehouse. V&P allow private accounts and we can easily transfer Delivery Order ownership should you wish to do so.
